Port Macquarie Girl Guides is a girl only organisation. We have three age groups – Junior Guides (7-10 yrs), Guides (10-14 yrs) and Senior Guides (14-18 yrs). Our Mission is to enable girls and young women to grow into confident, self respecting, responsible community members. Girls of 5 to 18 years have fun and learn skills that develop their self-confidence and community responsibility. Guides meet weekly during the school term. Guiding is an all-female organisation from top to bottom. Research has shown that girls perform better and have more opportunities in an all-girl environment. At meetings girls work in small groups, play games, progress through challenges, earn badges, run their own activities with leader supervision (depending on age). They have the opportunity to go campings, both indoor and outdoor (age appropriate), abseiling, attend campfires, make a campfire, crafts, games, cooking, personal care, community service and numerous other activities. A girl can visit a Guide Unit for two weeks while she decides if Guiding is the right thing for her. After that time, she will need to join Girl Guides NSW & ACT to continue attending. Guide Units welcome girls with disabilities, depending on the Leader’s capability and the nature of the disability. We have a Special Needs Consultant who will work with you to find the best opportunities for your daughter. You can join whenever you like. Your membership commences from the date of joining, and the fee will fall due on that date each year. Guiding would be a great place for your daughter to mix with other girls and make new friends in an informal environment. If you are under 30, you may like to join the Olave Program, where you will enjoy many Guide activities with other young women. There are also a wide variety of support roles available for women of all ages. If you are over 30 then we have roles that you can undertake as well. You can become a leader, unit helper, support group member, or just a parent helper.
