CARCOAR CUP FOR KIDS

Belubula St , Carcoar NSW 2791
Description

In 2011 we staged the inaugural Carcoar Cup Running Festival in the historic town of Carcoar in Central NSW. We attracted close to 300 runners from 108 different towns and cities all over Australia.

Runners described it variously
“(The Carcoar Cup is)…. is the best new race on the NSW running calendar.”
“That course out there you made up has to be one of the very best!”
The festival received an Australia Day award as the “Community Event of the Year” for the Blayney Shire, and received tremendous media exposure, featuring on television, radio and in print.
In 2012 we are adding a Carcoar Cup U18 Championship to the Marathon, Half Marathon, Carcoar to Creek Dash, teams events and the stunning Carcoar Cup for Kids (U12, U10, U8, U6). The course has become a tourist route in the meantime, accommodation has been heavily booked, and early entries taken. The website www.carcoarcup.com.au has been a great hit with visitors, and is already set up for 2012 entries.
The Festival and its beautiful course offer competitors great rewards – first the personal challenge, second the opportunity to make a substantial contribution to charity, and third to win some of the considerable amount of prizemoney on offer. We anticipate the combination of these factors will see an entry of over 500 athletes for 2012.
In 2011 the Carcoar cup attracted a field of high class athletes from all over australia as well as overseas. Contestants race on an almost equal mixture of bitumen and dirt tracks, with rises and falls of several hundreds of metres in altitude. The weather at that time of year in Carcoar is still beautifully cool, especially in the mornings, as Carcoar is close to 700m metres above sea level, and is the lowest point of the course. Much of the course is flanked by trees.

The Carcoar Cup for Kids is a short race around the town of Carcoar designed for the young ones. At approximately 1.8km it is a challenging enough distance for the competitive ones but short enough to still be fun.
The race starts outside the Royal Hotel, rounds the historic courthouse, turns right before the Carcoar School, then the runners tear across Pound Flat, over the ford, around the Showgrounds to Uralba, along Eulamore St, down along Naylor St and over the bridge before swinging left to the finish in Belubula St.
Although they all race together, the race is divided up into boys and girls divisions in U12, U10, U8, and U6, with the first two in each category receiving a specially made trophy.
