Dripping Rock – Waterfalls

Description

While the North West may not be an area synonymous with waterfalls Dripping Rock is significantly more impressive than its name would suggest. With plans in place to upgrade the area’s facilities, this spot, known to locals for years, this area is set to become a draw card for Boggabri’s visitors.

Located outside Boggabri towards Manilla, the Dripping Rock carpark is reached via an unsealed road, so it is worthwhile checking road conditions with the Visitor Centre. Surrounded by a lush forest of Melaleucas, the waterfall is only a short stroll from the carpark. As you emerge from the trees you will be greeted by a spectacular semi-circular cliff towering over a small rock pool. Water tumbles over the cliff from a height of 50m completing the heavenly scene. The sedimentary nature of this cliff allows water to seep through the rock, leaving it dripping with condensation, hence the name. After lots of rain the sheer volume of ‘drips’ make it more of a cascade!

This little piece of paradise is an idyllic spot for a picnic or just to sit and listen to the hypnotic splash of water, melodious birdsong and wind in the trees. If the weather is right, the large pool is also a nice spot for a swim. A small ledge running around the length of the cliff gives easy access onto the rocks directly below the waterfall, forming a refreshing natural shower.

For the bird watchers amongst you, Dripping Rock is a veritable Mecca of activity, with numerous bird species finding a home in this unique and beautiful habitat.
