Tamworth Regional Conservatorium of Music

223 - 227 Marius Street , Tamworth NSW 2340
Description

Tamworth Regional Conservatorium of Music was established by the community in 1984 on the ground floor of the  former Dominican Convent building, sharing facilities with the Department of Public Works.

In 1993 Public Works moved offices and the ownership of the building was transferred to the University of New England. The Conservatorium now leases the entire building from the university, with which it is affiliated. Tamworth Regional Council also provides rehearsal facilities for large ensembles in the former Council Chambers.

The Conservatorium receives part funding from the New South Wales Department of Education and Training and is strongly supported by the Tamworth Foundation for Musical Education as well as the business and private sectors of the community.

Responsibility for the Conservatorium is vested in an Incorporated skills-based Board of Management, all members of which serve in an honorary capacity. Running of the organisation is assumed by the Director.

A stable enrolment of 950 to 1,000 students has maintained for a number of years.

Students may enter for examinations with the Australian Music Examination Board. Many have undertaken tertiary studies and careers in music, either as performers or teachers.

The Conservatorium is not a tertiary facility.
