Long Paddock Sculptures

Blair Street / Cobb Highway , Moama / Mathoura NSW 2731 / 2710
Description

The Long Paddock – Cobb Highway Touring Route follows The Cobb Highway (named for the famous coach company) from Echuca Moama on the Victorian border, through to Wilcannia leading to the iconic outback towns of Bourke, Broken Hill and White Cliffs. The Long Paddock Touring Route will see you travel through many interesting towns and villages and past various attractions along the way, as well as 47 interpretive panels located at significant sites along the Cobb Highway. The panels are a wonderful mixture of truths, tales and images.

Long Paddock boasts 11 large scale sculptures that tell the stories, tales and history of the region. The sculptures are fast becoming an iconic stop on the Australian Tourism Bucket List. The sculptures are not only a great photo opportunity, they reflect the heart and soul of these small rural communities.  The sculptures are a beautiful reflection of the impact this region has had on the wealth and success of the nation. The Moama sculpture “The Barge” (located in Blair Street near the Skate Park) depicts the often “happy” barge masters who moved the sawn logs to the wharves at Echuca. In Mathoura, a timber town, timber cutters are depicted using various tools in “The Woodcutters” (located at the Mathoura Visitor and Business Centre) – it also depicts the skill of timber cutters in managing the forests. Mathoura is also home to a Corey Thomas sculpture that depicts the intimate relationship between drover and horse, which was vital to the movement of stock along the route in often harsh climatic conditions.
